Japanese vowels and Japanese syllables

  08   Japanese syllables (7) ya, yu, yo

Except for vowels which can stand alone, Japanese words are basically made up of simple syllables composed of one consonant and one vowel. Each syllable is stressed more or less evenly.

ya
 ..... as in young
yi
 ..... In ordinary Japanese, this sound isn't used.
yu
 ..... as in you, but shorter
ye
 ..... In ordinary Japanese, this sound isn't used.
yo
 ..... as in yodel, but shorter

Let's pronounce the Japanese words.

(1)  ko yo mi,  a sa ya ke

(2)  ya ku so ku,  yu ka i

(3)  yo no na ka,  ya ki i mo

(4)  yo  mi ya su i,  yu ka ta
